Media Coverage

Fall, 2009 -- The Kactus Krusher Makes it BIG in Texas

Hello again Neighbors,

It’s Dave Gross, with a few words about "The Kactus Krusher", and the Media Coverage.  I wanted to let you know of some fun news and happenings.

Most of you know that there was a newspaper article written about our process back in December of 2007, by Fred Afflerbach of the Temple Daily Telegram.  It got picked up by Associated Press and showed up in newspapers all over Texas.   I actually had calls from as far away as Trinidad, Colorado and Ashland, Kansas, although I only serve Texas.

I first met Fred several years ago, when he invited me out to see the cactus that had overgrown some ranch land he owned.  At that time, he said that he'd gone back to college, but I wasn't aware that he planned on making a career change.

In any case, I've worked for Fred several times since then, as time and his budget permitted.   The cactus on his ranch is a "work in progress".  I've successfully reclaimed much of the cactus-infested land.  After initially starting down in the valley, I've increased the cleared land with each additional visit.  The valley is completed and I'm now working my way across the top.

Once Fred finished school and was working as a newspaper journalist, he contacted me about wanting to do a story on The Kactus Krusher.  I was truly expecting any article to be edited, condensed, and buried someplace on a back page -- sandwiched between two used car ads!  I had no idea that it would make the Sunday Edition, Front Page, and In Color!!  (Thanks, Fred!)  I guess I really made an impression on him, and all the hard work I put into every job paid off!

While I'm happy to just get back to work after my "15 minutes of fame", I still get comments from people I meet who have seen the story.  This past Spring, I got a nice email from Emily Matthews of KWTX/TV, Waco.   "Emily Wants to Know", her news interest segment, wanted to do a story on our process.  With the help of my friend, Dr. Gary "G.W." Johnson, this was filmed at his ranch and shown to her viewers.  Gary invented and patented the original Kactus Kicker tool, a home use version.   He was a mentor during the design, construction and field trials of my heavier commercial rigs.

Unfortunately, KWTX/TV has since removed the video link, but you can still see their article and comments at:   http://www.kwtx.com/emilywantstoknow/headlines/43092557.html

I don’t believe there is a major motion picture in my future, but if you see me, look closely:  You can see me smiling behind my dust mask!
